In this study you are asked to look at squares containing a number of dots and to rate how numerous are the dots in eqch square. You will rate on a scale from 1 to 9, where 1 = the smallest number of dots and 9 = the largest number of dots. Scroll down and look at the first 14 trials in the warmup, which show you all of the dot patterns in order of increasing number. We are not asking you to count the number of dots or to compute anything, but instead, just get an impression and judge how many dots you judge are there, compared to the other patterns. Use numbers between 1 and 9 for intermediate numbers. 5 = the average number of dots.
The smallest number of dots you will see should be judged 1 and the largest number should be judged 9. Scroll down and look at the first 14 trials in the warm-up. These are put in order for you to see the range of dot patterns you will see.
For example, if you think there are an average number of dots, compared to the others, type 5 in the box next to the item where it says "Your Estimate=", if you think there are more than the average number, use ratings from 6 to 9; and if you think there are fewer than the average number, use ratings from 1 to 4, depending on how numerous the dots seem to be.
1 = smallest number of dots
2 = very small number
3 = small number
4 = slightly smaller than average number
5 = average number
6 = slightly greater than average number
7 = large number
8 = very large number
9 = largest number of dots
Scroll down again and look over the first 14 trials before you begin, then complete those trials, typing in numbers from 1 to 9. Then do the other trials below, which are in random order. Again, use only numbers from 1 to 9, where 1 is for the smallest number and 9 for the largest number.
