Study Title: Studies in Judgment and Decision Making
Protocol Number: HSR-21-22-217
Researchers: Dr. Michael Birnbaum, Psychology Department, CSUF; Julien Rouvere, Psychology Department, CSUF

You are being asked to take part in a research study carried out by Dr. Michael Birnbaum, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at California State University, Fullerton, and Julien Rouvere, a graduate student at California State University, Fullerton.

The surveys in this series of studies contain no foreseeable risks beyond those of reading and thinking and answering questions in everyday life. The questionnaires are of different lengths and typically take less than 20 minutes each. There will be no costs to you for taking part in this study.

In each survey on judgment and decision making, you can read the entire questionnaire first and decide if you want to fill it out. If you decide to participate, fill it out and click the submit button at the end. You will signify your consent by clicking the "submit" button, which will send your data and serve as your voluntary agreement to participate in this research project. If you decide not to do the study, do not click the submit button.

Participants will experience what it is like to participate in research on the science of behavior using mathematical models. Any identifying information you supply will be removed from the data files promptly, and the dataset will be stored anonymously. The data are transmitted over the Internet using a protocol no more secure than email. No published results will identify you, and no identifying information will be associated with the findings. You must be 18 years of age or older.

After everyone in a session has completed the assignment, data will be checked by a HUMAN, and CSUF credit toward the assignment will be given within 48 hours AFTER the DEADLINE (last date) to complete the assignment.

Credit is based on the actual time working on the assignment and the amount of work accomplished according to the instructions for the tasks. NO credit will be given for random button pushing, for leaving an idle computer for more than 2 minutes, or for other attempts to "cheat" the assignment. Data will be checked by a human before credit is assigned. Please read the instructions carefully, take the tasks seriously, and help us to learn about human behavior. If you are not willing to take the tasks seriously, please choose one of the alternative methods to complete your course assignments.

Questions regarding the purpose or procedures of the research should be directed to Dr. Michael Birnbaum (mbirnbaum@fullerton.edu) or Julien Rouvere (rouvere@csu.fullerton.edu). The IRB, a university committee established by Federal law, is responsible for protecting the rights and welfare of research participants. If you have concerns or questions about your rights as a research participant, you may contact the IRB at 657-278-7719 or irb@fullerton.edu. The IRB number for this research is HSR-21-22-217.

I have read and understand this consent form. By submitting my responses, I am verifying that I am at least 18 years of age and wish to participate in this project. Click here to go to the studies.
